Originally from Cumbria, painter and printmaker Kittie Jones makes work inspired by British nature. In the last few years printmaking has formed a central part of her practice. Her screen prints depict bold and colourful characterisations of well known British birds within the landscape.
'An interest in drawing directly from life and how these drawings can be developed into finished pieces has formed a central part of my practice for some time now. My work usually starts on location, often with a hot flask and my waterproof trousers, making sketches and drawings of the natural world.
'My main subject matter is nature and man's relationship with it. The captured moment with an animal or bird when I am out and about is my starting point for many of the pieces. I am lucky enough to be passionate about my subject matter and learning more all the time. I enjoy the challenges of printmaking and the limitations it presents. My screen prints allow me to combine bold saturated colour with softer, hand-drawn marks.'
Kittie completed her Foundation Course at Leith School of Art where she now teaches. She went on to complete a combined degree in History of Art and Fine Art (Painting) at Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University. Kittie regularly exhibits work in galleries and open exhibitions throughout the United Kingdom.
